What's new in version 2.7 of the MIMEsweeper™ Email Appliance?

Protecting your e-mail gateway, your data and your users

The MIMEsweeper Email Appliance just keeps on getting better so you’re not left behind.

You can rely on Clearswift to deliver cutting–edge features like our unique common policy console to handle both e-mail and Web policy centrally; or ‘soft’ versions suitable for HP and IBM hardware platforms as well as a VMware ESX option.

In the 2.7 release we’ve added a big chunk of new capabilities to make your e-mail more secure and your management more efficient:

More powerful Anti-Spam

Bounce Address Tag Validation (BATV) – if your e-mail address is spoofed by a spammer, you’ll be inundated by ‘backscatter’, non-delivery reports from the millions of addresses mailed. BATV stops your server being swamped by these rogue non-delivery reports.

Updated Bayesian database service – offers improved spam detection rates over previous versions.

Updated SpamLogic™ signatures service – provides further improvements to the spam detection rates and, the inclusion of the Signature ID of the rule that was triggered, helps minimize false positives.

New false positive reporting – makes it easier to report and manage any false positives from the Message Center and/or the Personal Message Manager.

Even better Management

Enhanced common policy console – now supports a ‘mixed’ peer group; change policy from an E-mail Appliance to a Web Appliance or vice versa.

Log viewer enhancements – a new tree structure makes finding the right log for discovery, analysis or audit very easy indeed

Automatic back-up of Recent Message logs – now include the ‘Recent Message’ logs in auto-backup and restore for comprehensive off-appliance back-up

Combined protocol threat report – a report on all e-mail and Web threats within a peer group; see all e-mail and Web threats by day, week, month or year

Even easier Deployment

TRUSTmanager in a ‘fronted’ infrastructure – all spam reputation services need to be at the edge of your network to work effectively. Now TRUSTmanager works just as well in a ‘fronted’ environment (behind a managed service or not located at the network edge).

More ‘soft’ appliance support – the ‘soft’ appliance version is now mountable on IBM Blade servers, an increased range of IBM and HP servers and Dell’s R200 server series

Enhanced Policy features

Received header stripping – by default the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance adds a specific header to the message listing including DNS name and IP address. This default may now be overridden to hide the information in outbound messages.

Configurable address re-writing – is particularly aimed at rationalizing e-mail addresses in a merger or acquisition situation where you want to re-write the old e-mail address to show the new one. This feature allows modification of the ‘envelope’ and the ‘content’ or just the ‘envelope’.

“Relay-To” unmodified message – adds to the archiving policy capabilities by letting you archive the modified (current in the appliance) or the original format of the message

Not in release 2.7 but too good to ignore!

Granular connection services through TRUSTmanager™ - with four reputation bands:

  1. Good – bypass all anti-spam (whitelist);
  2. Neutral – apply anti-spam filtering;
  3. Suspicious – block for re-try before spam filtering (greylist);
  4. Bad – reject the message on sight

VE - Virtual e-mail appliances - virtualization is taking IT by storm. Clearswift is right out front with two new VE versions – the ready to go VMware ESX version and the entire appliance Linux kernel build ready to run as an appliance on HP, IBM and an increased range of Dell servers

Backup and Restore - the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance now supports both scheduled and immediate backups of the entire appliance to a remote FTP server, including quarantine areas, message tracking data, system configuration, logs and reporting data. Restore in full or in part.

Printable policy - print policy rules and policy routes in a simple, easy-to-read format.

Increased file format coverage - including Google Video, Monkeys Audio, Flash Video, MS Office mso files, PointSec encrypted files, NEC InfoCage encrypted files and ALSI encrypted files

Personal Message Management – lets users manage their own quarantines

Multi-box message management – manage all appliances as it they were one, including VM and VA ranges

TLS encryption – without sacrificing policy enforcement
